Flagstaff, Arizona
This northern part of the state is one of my favorite summer escapes. Not only is the weather in Flagstaff is much milder than the rest of Arizona, but there’s so much gorgeous scenery to enjoy. From rolling meadows and lush forests to breathtaking canyons, you’ll find endless beauty without battling triple-digit heat!
Summer is also when Flagstaff’s wildflower season is in full bloom! From mid-July to September, the area bursts into a stunning display of colors—think bright sunflowers, poppies, lupine, desert marigolds, and more. With so many natural wonders to see and experience in Flagstaff, you won’t just get a beautiful backdrop for your engagement photos. You’ll also go on a romantic adventure to remember!
Mogollon Rim
This Arizona gem is a photographer’s paradise! The Mogollon Rim is a massive escarpment that stretches across the state, serving up tons of stunning backdrops. You’ve got everything from towering pine forests and scenic lakes to beautiful mountain communities full of charm and character. There’s something for everyone! Plus, the higher elevation means cooler temps and the most cinematic views—especially when golden hour starts to hit.
Inside at Arcosanti
Have you heard of Arcosanti? It’s an experimental urban lab just outside Phoenix, dedicated to pushing the boundaries of sustainable urban planning.
This place is packed with incredible installations and unique backdrops you won’t find anywhere else, thanks to its eco-friendly “arcology” design and the artistic community that built it. Plus there are TONS of indoor and open-air spots. So you can capture that one-of-a-kind aesthetic without braving the desert sun!
From cozy guest houses and charming visitor’s center to the eclectic craft building, every corner of Arcosanti is filled with a truly unique style you won’t find anywhere else!
The Luhrs Tower
This historic skyscraper in Downtown Phoenix is the perfect spot for couples looking for a sophisticated, timeless vibe. The entire building full of romantic art deco architecture and cozy interiors, offering tons of incredible backdrops. And the best part? You never have to step foot outside!
From the grand staircase to the elegant bronze elevators and marble hallways, Luhrs Tower is packed with amazing photo ops! Also, since it’s located downtown, you’re just a short walk away from other cool spots (one of my favorites is Wren and Wolf!). So if you want to mix in another location or take photos against the cityscape itself, it couldn’t be easier!
At Home
Yup, you heard me! Taking photos at home is the perfect way to beat the summer heat AND capture those special moments in a comfortable setting. You can have your full wardrobe ready for any last-minute outfit changes, skip the photoshoot commute, and include pets or other meaningful elements without extra hassle. Plus, if you’re camera shy you can dodge the crowds in public spaces!
Want that cozy at-home feel but don’t want to use your own house as the backdrop? No problem! You can rent a charming Airbnb for the day. It’s a great way to get a unique setting with all the comforts of home. Plus, you can choose a place that fits your style perfectly, giving your photos an extra special touch. It’s like a mini getaway with stunning photos as a bonus!
