Alyssa and Kyle wanted to take their engagement photos somewhere special but hadn’t found anywhere that really spoke to them. So, when they asked me if there were any dream locations I had always wanted to photograph (which is an AMAZING way to secure a great spot for your session, by the way) I immediately threw out Arcosanti. It’s this amazing sustainable architectural project from the 70’s with the coolest Southwestern-style installations you won’t find anywhere else. We had so much fun during their unique Arcosanti engagement session, and Alyssa and Kyle ended up with photos that were as special and full of personality as the couple themselves!
An Arizonan Backdrop Like No Other
Have you ever heard of Arcosanti? It’s this incredible experimental town dreamed up by architect Paolo Soleri, all about pushing the boundaries of sustainable urban planning. Spread across 25 acres, it’s packed with jaw-dropping scenery and features like an outdoor amphitheater, open-air vaults, and even apartment complexes. Everywhere you turn, there’s something unique and special to see.
And here’s the best part: whether you’re into urban vibes or craving a dose of nature, Arcosanti has got you covered. There’s a backdrop and style for every taste, and you could spend all day taking advantage of the beautiful buildings and breathtaking views. It’s seriously like a photographer’s dream come true, and part of the reason it had been on my bucket list for such a long time. I couldn’t wait to dive into every corner of this awesome setting for Alyssa and Kyle’s engagement session!
Beating the Desert Heat
When I arrived with Alyssa and Kyle on the day of their engagement session, I couldn’t have been more excited to get started. But since it was a blazing hot desert spring day, taking photos outdoors would have been a sweaty, tiring ordeal. The good news? With plenty of indoor hideaways and open-air spots, we could bask in that Arizona charm without melting under the sun. We kicked off our session by exploring the cozy nooks and shaded spots around the town.
Not only did I capture these cozy photos of the couple, but we had such a fun adventure exploring the different areas of the property and finding backdrops that really spoke to the couple. I’m all about tailoring each session to capture each couple’s personality, and Arcosanti made it so effortless with it’s endless options for scenery!
Golden Hour with a View
As the sun started to dip and the temperature cooled down, we headed outdoors. And wow, were there so many cool spots to explore, especially the vaults and open-air amphitheater! As golden hour kicked in, we wandered into the surrounding landscape, soaking up every bit of desert beauty. Even after the sun had set, we made the most of the surrounding streetlights, wrapping up the day with a touch of romance. As a photographer who’s all about capturing those cinematic moments, Arcosanti provided an absolute dream environment to capture those larger-than-life images.
Our Arcosanti adventure was an absolute blast! Alyssa and Kyle now have photos they’ll cherish forever, and I feel so privileged to have been part of this special moment in their relationship. Plus, crossing this destination off my bucket list with them made it even more memorable!
So if you’re not sure where to take your engagement photos, this is your sign to ask your photographer about THEIR dream locations. And if that photographer happens to be me, I’ve got a mile-long list of ideas that I can’t wait to share!
