Sally and Mason’s wedding was one of those celebrations with an easy, joyful energy, and a gallery I’ve found myself coming back to lately. Their day was such a natural reflection of their personalities, from the peaceful garden setting at The Wright House to the incredible group of people who gathered to celebrate them.
As a photographer who loves documenting authentic moments and the bonds that bring people together, it was such a joy to document this day.
Getting Married at The Wright House in Mesa, Arizona
If you think getting married in the Phoenix area means your venue has to be all dirt and tumbleweeds, think again. Sally and Mason were dreaming of a lush, garden-inspired setting, and The Wright House was exactly what they were looking for.
It offers something a little different from the typical Phoenix backdrop, with flowerbeds, shady trees, and quiet water features throughout the gardens.
What makes this space work especially well is the variety of areas across the property, allowing the day to move naturally from one part of the celebration to the next.
Their ceremony took place in the garden gazebo, with guests gathered on the surrounding lawn as Sally and Mason shared their vows there. Afterward, we explored some of the tree-lined paths and garden corners around the property, and finished the evening on the cozy veranda, where everyone gathered to celebrate together.
And the team at The Wright House kept everything running smoothly behind the scenes, which allowed Sally and Mason to stay present with their people and enjoy the celebration. It was the perfect setting for their day.
A Community-First Celebration
One thing that really stood out about Sally and Mason’s celebration was how much their community matters to them. It was important to them that their photos to reflect not just their relationship, but the people who have supported them along the way. As a community-first photographer, those are the kinds of dynamics I pay close attention to throughout the day.
We spent time documenting family and wedding party photos so they’d have those images with the people closest to them. Sally and Mason also shared that variety in their photos was important, so we built that into the plan by changing up groupings and locations throughout the day. It meant their gallery moves through a mix of people and moments, giving it a layered, more natural feel.
Looking through their gallery, you see Sally and Mason together, but you also see the people who showed up for them. Their friends, their families, and the relationships that are part of this chapter of their story.
Candid Moments
From the beginning, Sally and Mason told me they wanted their photos to feel relaxed and full of candid moments with their people. That’s exactly why as a photographer, I balance a director approach with a fly-on-the-wall presence, documenting your day in a way that feels true to you.
When it came time for portraits and group photos, I stepped into my director role, giving fun prompts and hyping them up every step of the way. And for those unscripted moments throughout the day? I stepped back and let them unfold naturally, documenting each reaction, happy tear, long hug, and iconic dance floor moment.
Looking through their gallery now, I love seeing all those moments side by side. You can really FEEL what it was like to be there, which is always my goal as a photographer.
