Monica and Dominic had quite the journey leading up to their engagement. But WOW, was it all worth it! Their beginning was serendipitous. After giving up on most of the dating sites, Monica gave it one last shot on Hinge thinking nothing would actually come of it.
But when Dominic’s photo popped up, she thought, “Wow, what a beautiful smile, and he looks normal!” (Ironically, normal is exceptional when it comes to dating sites.) She “liked” one of his photos and moved on without much afterthought….
Until he decided to comment on her family description (no on comments on the family description unless they are: 1) Someone who values family, and 2) Truly interested in a date. The genuine comment got her attention, and they began texting each other.
You may expect that their relationship simply blossomed from there…but it didn’t. She wasn’t quite sure if she felt a spark, while he knew right from the start. They drew it out for a few weeks and realized that their friendship came naturally and their relationship was truly meant to be.
Finally, it was time for him to pop the question and present the ring. After 3 failed proposal attempts and redoing the ring 4 times, Dominic decided he needed a plan that couldn’t fail. He reached out to me – a mutual friend due to Monica’s ties with the Arizona Cardinals. He knew I loved to do styled shoots with couples, and Monica couldn’t say no to a fun photoshoot (you know, “to help a friend out”). We decided I would tell her I had a last-minute cancellation and needed a couple to fill for a shoot. Sure enough, Monica couldn’t wait to get dolled up for a session in the breathtaking Superstition Mountains.
And you know what? As soon as we got things squared away it began to THUNDERSTORM! We pushed through, and things cleared up just in time for this magical proposal that was a long time coming. Plus, they even got a rainbow at the end of it all – a sign of good luck, for sure! Congratulations, Dominic and Monica!
Want to know how to pull off an epic proposal like Dominic and Monica’s?
1. Pick a Memorable Location
The location sets the overall mood and tone of the proposal. Make sure you choose wisely. First date spots, a place with a gorgeous natural backdrop (like Dom and Monica’s), or a favorite restaurant are all ideas to explore. Are there any places that hold sentimental value for the two of you? Or maybe there’s a spot in the city you both love to go for the views and entertainment? Be sure to pick a spot that fits your personality.
2. Plan Out your Words
Even if you’re a “wing it” kind of person, it’s important to have some idea of what you’re going to say. This is a big moment. The best way to personalize it is to authentically convey how much your other half means to you by speaking intentionally. It doesn’t have to be long, but it should come from the heart. As a bonus, you could write it down on elegant paper as a special keepsake.
3. Hire a Proposal Photographer
Instead of asking a friend or family member to hide with their iPhone to capture the moment, hire a professional. This moment deserves the best. It’s one of those sweet turning points in your life that you’ll cherish forever, so one way to personalize your marriage proposal is by documenting the story in quality, cohesive images. Think of it as an engagement gift for the two of you – this is where it all began!
